Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are going to be updating our website regularly as and when there are any changes to advice or availability of services.

Surgery Update (COVID-19) as of 31.3.2020

  • PLEASE EVERYONE..DO NOT VISIT THE SURGERY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AND BEEN CONTACTED BY A GP OR MEMBER OF THE PRACTICE STAFF.  WE DO NOT WISH PATIENTS TO COLLECT THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS FROM THE SURGERY UNLESS THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SUPPLY OR REQUESTED BY A DOCTOR.

  • THERE IS A STRICT 1 PATIENT AT A TIME INTO THE SURGERY, PLEASE OBSERVE THE 2 METRE SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILST WITHIN THE PRACTICE & IN OUR FOYER WHEN REQUESTING PRESCRIPTIONS.
  • Chemists have changed their opening times to enable them the time to process the huge amounts of prescriptions that they have received during this time.  These are the latest that we are aware of:

Shil Pharmacy (Thornhill) - 9.30 - 12 & 2-5 each day (closed Wed PM)

Boots (Cwmbran Town Centre) - 9-12 &2-5 (Mon-Sat) 10.30-12.30 & 1.30-3.30 (Sunday)

Lloyds (Croesyceiliog) - 10-1 & 2-5 (Mon/Tues) 10-1 & 2-4.30 (Wed) 10-1 & 2-6 (Thurs & Fri) 9-1 (Saturday)

Most Pharmacies have now adopted closing between 12 & 2.  Due to the high demand that the pharmacies are facing, PLEASE ALLOW 72HRS before collecting your prescription after requesting at the surgery.  Please do not ring the surgery until after this time as we will not be aware of where your medication is within the pharmacy processing.

  • Public Health Wales have announced they have temporally paused the recall system for all screening including:

Breast Test Wales, Cervical Screening Wales, Bowel Screening Wales, Diabetic Eye Screening Wales and Wales Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening.

  • The practice opening hours will be from 8am - 6.30pm.  These maybe subject to change if further measures from the government.

  • All patients requesting medication will now need to nominate a pharmacy for the prescription to be collected.  Requests will not be processed unless this information is provided. This, I am sure you will understand, has been put in place to reduce the amount of patients that come to the surgery and will protect our staff and doctors to enable us to continue providing our medical services to our patients.

  • Please do not call us asking if you are one of the 1.5 million who need shielding.  Our lines are exceptionally busy. Welsh Government are currently carrying out this process and letters are being sent imminently.  The practice at present has not been informed of which patients will be sent a letter.

  • We will now be running a restricted access service for bookings.  We will only be offering on the day and up 48hrs appointments.

  • If you have a booked appointment, please do not come to the surgery.. you will be contacted by the GP that you are booked with at the allocated time given and a telephone consultation will be carried out. If a face-to-face consultation is required the GP will carry out screening questions and give you a time to attend.

  • We have been advised by the Welsh Government to suspend all online appointment bookings.  You will no longer be able to book an appointment through MHOL until further notice.  This facility has now been disabled from your MHOL accounts.  Please contact the surgery if you require to see a doctor

  • Nursing Appointments (including Healthcare Assistants) the practice will only be carrying out essential nursing services.  These will be:

INR/Warfarin & High Risk Drug Monitoring,

Urgent or clinically needed Blood tests

Urgent ECG's

Depo-Provera Injections

Dressings/Packings/Removal of Stitches

Prostate Cancer Injections

Childhood Immunisations

  • The Nursing Team will contact all patients booked the day before or on the morning of their appointment to carry out screening to insure well enough to attend surgery. Please contact the surgery if you are concerned regarding your future bookings or become unwell.

  • Prescriptions are being processed but due to the high volume of requests our processing time will now be 48hrs.  We ask that you only request your current medications and do not stockpile. This behaviour may cause a shortage of essential medicines.

  • You can order your medication in the normal way that you do currently.  My Health Online is available (prescriptions only) and also our dedicated email for ordering prescriptions.w93027@wales.nhs.uk along with our dedicated Prescribing Line and our drop off box within our foyer.  Please adhere to the 1 patient in the foyer at one time and that Social Distancing is observed.

We love to see our patients and even have a chat but can we please ask that you adhere to the information displayed on our front door and in the foyer.  Do not approach the reception desk unless asked to do so.  We know that this is a difficult time but the Health & Safety of our patients and staff are our utmost priority.

The telephones are going to be very busy over the coming days and we ask if you do not require anything urgent to not phone the surgery unless necessary.  The staff will always try to help but your patience and understanding would be much appreciated at this time.

Our biggest aim is to keep all our patients and staff safe and healthy.  We will keep you up-to-date on any service changes on this site when it happens.

Please everyone listen to the advice and DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY IF YOU ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19
